ic rulebook

☾ RULES-V1.HTML ☽

Upon every participant's bed is a compact datapad of economic design. When booted, it opens only one large file: a list of rules, as well as profiles on every participant. The rulebook begins with a caveat that each rule broken will result in some form of repercussion, which is ultimately decided by the purveyor.

☾ GENERAL ☽

⏩ Each participant must sleep in one of the bunks provided, but they do not necessarily have to sleep in the room assigned to them. Up to three participants may stay in one room; any more is breaching the maximum occupancy, and as such is prohibited.
⏩ Participants may not sleep in a room if the person assigned to that room is not also sleeping in that room. For example, if Participant A and Participant B would like to sleep in Participant C's room, then Participant C necessarily must sleep in their room as well.
⏩ Participants are not allowed to stay in their room for longer than twelve hours in one solar day. If a participant breaches this rule, a bot will visit their room to see them out.
⏩ Destruction of Pygmalion infrastructure is prohibited, unless it is part of a conspiracy.

☾ ROLES ☽

⏩ Certain participants will be given special privileges and capabilities that they can use at their own discretion. This is known as a 'role'. They are typically in place for the good of the general group, meaning these participants have a 'general role'.
⏩ A role that has an ultimate goal separate from the general group is known as a 'third party role'. Participants with a role like this act alone and have a goal separate from the general group for resignation. This role is not always insidious for the general group, but the role possibly may include killing other participants.
⏩ If a participant with a third party role does kill, they will be included in the suspect pool as with any other culprit, and it will count as the conspiracy killing for the week.
⏩ A third party role will resign immediately on fulfilling their goal. Unlike a member of the general group, they are unable to pick whether to resign or continue.

☾ MURDERS / GENERAL ☽

⏩ Each week, a motive will be provided for participants.
⏩ Each week, a murder will occur.
⏩ Multiple participants are allowed to conspire together, but no more than three participants may conduct a murder together. The participant who is most culpable for the crime will be considered the 'true' culprit, such as in the case of a participant manipulating or forcing another participant to murder for them.
⏩ Accomplices may resign if they fulfill certain prerequisites: 1. The accomplice must betray the true culprit, whether this be in voting for them, killing them, or otherwise. 2. The accomplice must not achieve a majority vote in a trial. 3. There must be at least two original victims. Betraying the true culprit does not count towards this.
⏩ Accidental deaths and manslaughter will be counted as a conspiracy kill. Suicide is prohibited, and a participant who attempts it will promptly be subdued.
⏩ Any death after a conspiracy has been carried out must be public; 'public' means that more than three people must see it.
⏩ There will not be trials for public killings that occur after conspiracy killings. This means that there technically are no repercussions administered for those who commit these murders, but the perpetrator(s) will not be permissible for resignation. Despite the lack of technical repercussions, killing another participant may be frowned upon by other participants.

☾ MURDERS / INCENTIVES ☽

⏩ Because many motivations involve positive and negative punishment, incentives are in place to provide positive and negative reinforcement. An incentive can be anything that is desirable, including but not limited to personal items, objects that may be useful for murders, the protection of other participants, and more.
⏩ Participants that are considered weak or vulnerable may be shortlisted as such. Targeting these participants may result in bonus incentives.
⏩ Some participants will be deemed as valuable each week through a foolproof algorithm. These participants will receive protection for the duration of the week.
⏩ Valuable players are still viable culprits, and can be expelled via a majority vote as with any other suspect.

☾ MURDERS / INVESTIGATIONS ☽

⏩ An investigation begins upon a body being found my three or more people. This will be announced.
⏩ An autopsy will be provided, but this will typically be vague. Participants are allowed to use available resources, such as the medical bay, to uncover more details regarding the circumstances of a participant's death.
⏩ Individual pieces of evidence will be retrieved and displayed in the meeting room during trials, so participants do not have to worry about recovering said evidence. Pocketing evidence is prohibited.

☾ MURDERS / TRIALS ☽

⏩ Every participant must attend trials. The trials will occur in the meeting room on the middle deck.
⏩ Trials will occur the day subsequent to the investigation. There will be 48 hours allotted for trials before the voting session ends. A participant may cast a vote or change their vote at any time during the trial.
⏩ A pool of suspects will be provided at each trial. The culprit will be within the pool provided, as well as anyone else connected to the murder.
⏩ Every participant must vote in a trial. This vote must be for one of the provided suspects unless logical reasoning is supplemented.
⏩ Participants will be informed if they have selected the right or wrong choice upon the voting session's end.
⏩ The participant who wins the majority vote will be retired.
⏩ If the culprit of a respective conspiracy killing manages to elude a majority vote, they are allowed to choose between resignation or continuing. Culprits that choose to continue are permitted to kill again and receive incentives.
⏩ If a culprit chooses to continue, then their identity as the true culprit will remain a mystery.
