It feels more like an electrical zap than dying. Dying might feel a little bit more like falling asleep, but this is harder, more painful. If you've ever been electrocuted, the feeling might seem familiar; the discovery you make when you open your eyes, too, is likely very familiar. It's the night sky. Stars twinkle, a fire cracks warmly. You sit up and observe the surrounding area, and it's like you've woken up in some sort of canyon. The fire burns brightly, the moon shines beautifully, the crickets sing, and it is ... peaceful.

Mostly.

You know you're dead. This must be, then, the after life? Or something like it, at least. The horizon stretches on forever, the dirt and gravel seemingly endless. The moon is so big and bright, it's like you could reach out and touch her. There's a shed not too far from the fire, only but a stone's throw away, as if someone else might have made it, and then went inside it. Approaching it, you can see the light glowing inside it through the dusty windows that are littered with fingerprints. A computer screen, so large and wide that it's baffling, sits, waiting. Turning knob reveals that the shed is unlocked, and stepping inside... it doesn't feel any different from the outside.

A chair sits in the center of the room, a strange contraption strapped to the head of it. It looks like it would lower itself upon the head of whoever dares to sit on it, and wires from it's bottom curl up towards the machines attached to the screen. Several smaller desktop screens sit beneath the giant monitor. They, too, are hooked up to the machines scattered around the room, to the ominous one perched on top of the medical chair, and they blink, as if fighting to stay alive without use.

Pressing the giant monitor on, it lights up, and displays, strangely enough... a security camera feed. You push the button. It switches to another room. Again, another room. Again, another room. So on and forth.

You peeping tom! But no one can blame you, in the end. You might as well digitally haunt the rest of the ship until the game ends, and AL-2955 can clean out the trash bin.

...Right?

[ Well.

Maybe Allen's dead -- but he's not really sure. Everything from that night is pretty fuzzy. Mostly, he remembers the pain. But he's felt pain like that before, and he almost died then, but he didn't. So maybe he's dead, and maybe not. He'll figure it out later, he's sure. Just have to keep walking, until he really knows he's dead -- or something.

At the moment though, Allen's just kind of staring at this dangerous-looking chair. ]

Have any of you tested this thing out? What is it? Some sort of healing chair?

[ Because all medical chairs look weirdly intimidating, amirite. ]

... [ ... That was pretty cruel. He would be lying if he said it didn't resonate with him or if it didn't inspire some rather conflicting thoughts. For a second there, the feeling of being completely free of emotions was as liberating as it was disquieting.

That's what made the whole thing—complicated.

Until he thought about it more anyway. There may have been merits to the state of mind he was in, but ultimately? Whatever that was, it was more like he became a puppet than a proper Bookman. As clear as things seemed to be, all it was, was objectivity without reason. That isn't the same as being impartial at all.

For now, he pushes thoughts of the execution away and gets to his feet. He'll have time to dwell on the connotations of—whatever that was, later. The best thing to do right now is figure out what happened to him after the trial and where everyone went.

Oh, and of course his number one goal is "find out if I'm in danger." Nothing is as important as that.

At least his next step is easy. It's time to assess the area! ]

[ Wait -- huh -- what... ah... A couple more days. Allen had been holding out for a couple more days to collect his thoughts.

But now that Lavi's here, everything comes back to him. Not the memories, necessarily, but the anguish and the horror of watching his friend die -- and he'd been a part of it somehow, an instrument of Lavi's torture. Unbearably cruel. All of it -- eating at his chest, tearing up his throat, and he almost chokes on how overwhelming it is for a moment. It takes him a swallow before he's able to croak out something intelligible. ]

Lavi...? [ And then louder, a desperate note in his voice: ] Lavi!

[ The tears come quick -- one, two, and then it gets too pointless to count them anymore. Just as quick is his hug, a full body tackle almost. He doesn't care if Lavi attacks him again. His friend is here. He's here and he's with Allen. That's enough for now. ]

I'm sorry...
booklore: surprised (♪ give it up to me)

[personal profile] booklore 2016-07-02 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ And he remains frozen even after Allen embraces him. This doesn't make sense—Allen. Allen is dead.

He saw the body himself, touched it, held it, but this—this really did look like Allen. Even if the Millennium Earl had somehow come to the ship and revived him, this wasn't the same as Doug. When an akuma replaced him, its eyes had been lifeless, mechanical, and his smile had been off in away that was painful to remember. Meanwhile, Allen...

Allen looks right. If this is an akuma, there's not the slightest hint of it. It's difficult to believe (and the more skeptical, rational part of him is telling him to get away right now) but... maybe? Or is it that he just wants to believe this is Allen?

For what feels like the longest time he stands there limp, arms at his sides and not moving to touch Allen. ]
...Is this real?

[ Does he really not need to kill Allen all over again? ... Ah. His cheek feels wet again.

Completely bewildered and most certainly in shock, Lavi looks up as if he's expecting to see rain. ]

[ Spending an entire week with Allen is not as interesting as it sounds. There's not much in the way of distractions here, aside from the monitors anyway. Lavi's been keeping a strict watch on them for precisely that reason.

That's why it's not too surprising he notices the changes right away.

He stares, squints, and around the time the datapad starts lighting up, he excitedly moves to wherever he last saw Allen. ]
Allen, did you see that?

[ Allen are you stealing his schtick? He's supposed to be the nap expert around here. ]

I don't know. [ The datapad's probably loaded the app now so Lavi goes about poking at it and reading the information. ] But it's something new, it doesn't matter if it pointless if it's a good distraction.

[ Allen barks out a slightly breathless and hysterical laugh, short and immediately punctuated by a sob. He presses in closer, if only to hide his face against Lavi's shoulder.

Is this real? He doesn't know the answer to that. He doesn't care much at the moment. ]

I'm really the last person you should ask. [ Honestly, what does Allen know about anything anyway? ] Are you real, Lavi? I saw --

I saw you die.

[personal profile] deformity 2016-07-04 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
Are you saying we should let ourselves be distracted?

[ Like napping is any better, Allen... ]

Then again, I didn't think death would be so darn boring. [ He pulls at his bangs, ruffles them irritably, and then blows them out of his face. His hair askew only emphasizes the big frown on his face. ] And are we even dead! Really dead! Is there even such a thing as being fake dead! And why is it so boring here!!

[ Seriously, can they get some answers... ]
booklore: worried, concerned (♪ boy)

[personal profile] booklore 2016-07-04 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is starting to get exhausting. It seem like whatever brought us here doesn't care much about us, or about giving us answers. [ Even the Millennium Earl had the decency to show up and name himself as an adversary. Not knowing anything is messed up.

Still, Lavi figures if they're patient and thorough they'll eventually learn something.

He sits down next to Allen, still reading the pad. ]
Anyway, I don't think we're "dead," not exactly.
deformity: (39)

[personal profile] deformity 2016-07-05 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Then what are we? [ Aside from being bored to death.

Lavi's welcome to sit next to him, but Allen's not going to sit up unless there's important information to be found on the pad. Feel free to do all the reading for the both of them, Lavi. ]
booklore: inspecting a bottle, curious (♪ this love will make you levitate)

Mostly alive. [ He's paying a lot more attention to the game now. So far it really does seem pointless. He's not willing to give up just yet at least, so he'll... play?

More innocuous things have turned out to be vital so it's worth a shot. Assuming he can learn to navigate it in a timely manner that is. Wouldn't using dice make more sense than pressing a button?! ]
Huh. It looks like this is some kind of simulation game but I don't know what it's for yet. All I've figured out is this pad is acting as a board and there are a few different things to do.
deformity: (51)

[personal profile] deformity 2016-07-06 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
And where are you getting the "mostly" part? [ He waves a hand vaguely in the air. ] The sky outside hasn't changed at all, but this doesn't feel like any dream I've ever had. For one thing, we're too aware. Then again, it doesn't feel quite real either.

[ Maybe they're just in hell. ]

Is it an eating simulator? I miss eating.
booklore: just did something bad and knows it (♪ ready for)

[personal profile] booklore 2016-07-06 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you prefer "mostly dead"? [ Because that's no better. They're mostly something, no matter which way it goes. Personally Lavi leans toward the "alive" one himself. ]

Eh? You're still hungry? [ Leave it to Allen to prioritize the important things... ] Wouldn't watching an eating simulation just make you hungrier?
deformity: (20)

[personal profile] deformity 2016-07-07 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ Would he? That's food for thought. He wants to live, of course, but... well. Alive or dead, they still exist right here and now. That's important enough, right? Right... ]

Maybe it'll just make up my mind about eating you. [ Is he joking... ] So? What's it a simulation of?
booklore: hands behind head [elbows raised], smiling, ahaha... (♪ so just be sure)

Building houses...? [ Maybe?? ]

[personal profile] deformity 2016-07-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ah... a game about building houses. That sounds like a grand... ol'... time... ]

At least we won't be fighting any extreme urges to build one ourselves. Imagine paying a man for this game -- you'd essentially be paying someone else for the privilege of doing free manual labor for fun. Well. I say... build away, Junior, build away.

[ Yeah, he's just going to roll over. Time for another nap. ]
booklore: sweatin, thinking, weighing options, hand on bandana, "oh boy" (♪ are you ready for)

That's only if it were real, yeah? The concept does seem a little off though. Who knew carpentry was such a popular a hobby. [ Allen's right, this game is pretty strange. And, if he's being honest, a little childish. Is this like an advanced version of make-believe? You're supposed to grow out of those kinds of games when you're an adult.

Oh. Then again, Allen's life has been rough. This make-believe thing might do him some good.

Er, of course, he's not playing it so Allen can relive his youth! It's just—he might as well. As a Bookman, he should learn everything there is to know about this "modern" world! Or... something.

Which button is walk again? Seriously, dice make much more sense. Why are moves unlimited? ]
deformity: (02)

[personal profile] deformity 2016-07-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... The music is nice. [ Said in a sleepy mumble, like he's only half listening. ] Sounds like something a child would like. All the more strange that it's been given to us like this.

[ And by who? Alice?? Why... ]

How many houses have you built now, Lavi?
booklore: thinking, recording, hand over nose/mouth (♪ 'cause i'm coming at you)

[personal profile] booklore 2016-07-07 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ He nods. Since Allen might be too drowsy to see it, he'll say something too! ] The timing doesn't make sense either. You were here for a few days by yourself, then we were together for a week.

Why did it take so long for something to change?

[ It's not that Lavi's avoiding answering Allen's question about houses, it's just... look, he's been playing for like ten minutes!! Give him time to stop pressing the wrong buttons, Allen!! ]
deformity: (10)

wait what about the other two(??) here

[personal profile] deformity 2016-07-07 03:53 am (UTC)(link)

Judging from the -- [ What to call them... security cameras?? Headquarters had those too, didn't they? booklore: staring, thinking, hand/fingers curled at chin (♪ once you're mine)

[personal profile] booklore 2016-07-07 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ As if Allen would do any better. ]

That could be it. It's either that or Alice doesn't know we're here. [ Why she wouldn't, he has no idea. He doesn't know why she would give them this program either, especially if she abandoned them.

None of this makes sense. ]
deformity: (39)

oic welp shrugs!!

[personal profile] deformity 2016-07-07 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[ If there's money involved, he would. ]

Basically, we've established that we're probably here for a reason. This game was possibly given to us for a purpose. There's something strange going on with the timing of everything. And we honestly know absolutely nothing important.

[ ... ]

Maybe we should try the chair again.
